Tangs are commonly referred to as Surgeonfish or Doctorfish, and make a wonderful addition to the reef or fish only aquarium. If more than one species of Tang fish or sugeonfish is going to be kept, introduce different genera along with different-sized specimens simultaneously to limit aggression.

Within the Tangs & Surgeonfish family, the hobbyist will find everything from aquarium staples to rare collector fish. They derive their family name from the Greek meaning “thorn tail,” but are better known to aquarists as surgeonfish, doctorfish or tangs. Members of this family have a well-deserved place in most aquarist’s hearts based on their interesting behavior, natural algae-grazing tendency and longevity.
